“What Happened With Reignmakers? Can You Explain It To Me Like I'm 5?”
The best analogy we’ve heard for the gaming aspect is this:
Imagine someone came to you and asked you to invest in a season long fantasy sports league.
They asked you to invest a larger than normal amount up front, but not only does the league payout cash to all the winners every week, it also includes a chance to win trips as well as an opportunity to play for a percentage of your entry fees for future seasons.
The game founder also tells you they have a 5-year plan for the league ecosystem.
Simple enough right? Sounds fun too.
So, you invest, you start building your teams, and researching all the things you would do to try to be successful in this endeavor.
After a while, things are going reasonably well, and you are dedicating more time and money to the leagues, as the host continues to bombard you with requests to enter more lineups and even incentivizes additional spending.
Then, out of nowhere, the host loses interest and decides to end the league and discontinue all games.
They send everyone a notice they will be getting a percentage of the overall cash prizing that has yet to be paid out. But it will be based only on how many teams at each pricing tier you owned.
You get no compensation for the trips you should have had a right to play for.
You get no compensation for the future year entry fees you had a right to play for.
You get no compensation for the quality of the actual players on your team or how scarce they were.
You get no compensation for how well your team had been performing.
You get no compensation for the time and energy you invested into their endeavor.
You get no other explanation of why they decided to discontinue the league without notice, oh, and you must accept their offer for the cash and agree not to pursue legal action or you get nothing.
